Proving that age is no barrier to education, Bangladeshi expatriate Md. Hebju Mia has earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from India’s Jaipur National University through online studies at the age of 52. To celebrate his achievement, the Bangladesh Press Club, Kuwait, organized a reception at the City Tower Hotel in Kuwait City on Sunday, October 11. The event brought together members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community, including journalists, businesspeople, engineers, sports organizers and representatives of various social and political organizations. Organizationally Hebju Mia serves as Senior Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Press Club, Kuwait, and as Kuwait correspondent for Jamuna Television.

For nearly three decades, he has balanced his professional responsibilities in Kuwait with his pursuit of higher education. Managing online classes and academic commitments alongside long working hours at Kuwait’s central fruit and vegetable market was a considerable challenge. However, through determination, perseverance and effective time management, he overcame these obstacles and achieved his academic goal.
The reception was presided over by Moin Uddin Sarker Sumon, president of the Bangladesh Press Club, Kuwait. The organization’s General Secretary, A.H. Jubed, moderated the programme. Speakers congratulated Hebju Mia on his achievement, describing it as an inspiring example for expatriates who have put their educational ambitions on hold because of work and family responsibilities. They said his success demonstrated that pursuing education and developing professional skills remain possible at any stage of life, even while living and working abroad.

The speakers also emphasized the importance of continuing education and skills development alongside earning a livelihood. They noted that a better-educated and more skilled expatriate workforce can contribute not only to personal advancement but also to the well-being of families, communities and the country. The reception developed into a gathering of unity and camaraderie among members of the Bangladeshi community in Kuwait. Participants expressed hope that Hebju Mia’s achievement would encourage other expatriates to resume their studies, acquire new skills and pursue their long-held aspirations. By earning a bachelor’s degree at 52 while managing the demands of expatriate life, Hebju Mia has sent a powerful message: determination and perseverance can keep the doors to learning open at any age.
