Bangladeshi vegetables have become abundant in Kuwait’s markets before the start of the winter season. Currently, in addition to vegetables imported from Bangladesh, vegetables produced by the own farms of Bangladeshi expatriates living in Kuwait are reaching local markets and shops. On the one hand, expatriates are getting a taste of their homeland, while on the other hand, local farmers are building a unique history of success.
Kuwaiti expatriate agricultural workers have conquered everything, be it extreme heat or harsh winter weather. They have built agricultural farms by leasing land from local citizens in the desert. Using modern irrigation systems, relentless labor, and experience, they are producing various local vegetables.
Various types of vegetables including gourd, beans, brinjal, and spinach are now being produced in the farms of Bangladeshi expatriates. These vegetables are reaching various markets, supermarkets, and local shops in Kuwait. Expatriate buyers are also happy as locally produced vegetables are cheaper than those imported from Bangladesh. As a result, expatriates have returned home with the taste of their homeland and economic comfort.
At one time, the Kuwaiti market had to rely entirely on imports to meet the demand for local vegetables. However, the situation has now changed. Fresh local vegetables are being supplied to the Kuwaiti market through the agricultural labor of expatriate Bangladeshis. This has reduced import costs, buyers are getting their favorite vegetables at low prices, and expatriates are getting business success.
Many call this success of Bangladeshis in the agricultural sector a kind of “green revolution”. Day by day, more expatriates are leaning towards agricultural production. Especially due to the demand and quality of Bangladeshi vegetables, this sector has now become profitable.
This green revolution of Bangladeshis in the desert of Kuwait is not only a joy for expatriates, but also a source of pride for Bangladesh. Bangladeshis are proving that they know how to strengthen their position with hard work and talent wherever they go.
